Jenny was off playing silly buggers again this weekend. This time it was a half marathon (lazy cow only had to run 22km). Hamish was delighted to find out that there was a 1km kiddy run. A very excited wee boy had his number pinned to his vest and set off with Dad in tow, oh yes the wee sod insisted I ran with him all 1000m of it…

I was buggered, he complained when he found out that there was a 5km race….. I had better get fit.

Jenny and I have cycled over the Himalayas across deserts etc. but I think we have never been as proud as we were on Sunday when we took H on the Pipeline Track. On his one speed 16′ wheeled bike with back pedal breaking he managed 6km of gravel path. Two hugely proud parents riding one in front one behind as he wobbled at first then scooted along with sometime gut clenching (for us) courage.
Can’t wait until we track down a wee hub geared bike with V Brakes for him, and then he’ll fly.

Jen handed in her PhD thesis on Thursday to the internal reviewer at Uni, so it is not “in” yet but tatalisingly close, there is light at the end of the tunnel (even if we still don’t know how long the tunnel is). Friday was a panicked packing session, toys, books, running gear, robot jammies then off straight after school to the airport for a flight to Melbourne.
Hamish was the cute kid who yells “Zoooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmm!” as we took off

Saturday saw us in Melbourne Zoo with one of Jenny’s friends and 7 of her kids (yes she has more) staring eye to eye with a female gibbon through the glass window of her compound.

Sunday morning was the early start (5am) to get Jen organised for the 7am start to the Melbourne Marathon, Hamish did his best to dawdle but today was not a day for hanging about, we headed off to an agreed cheering point and left Jen to settle herself and warm up. We spent the morning, watching ute racing on TV (seriously), in the park, organising check out of the hotel and generally time wasting…….
Four hours and ten minutes later she arrived back 100m from where she began, mind you it took her 42.5km of running.
Hamish sat very patiently on my shoulders as we waited for about 30 minutes (marathon running is not an exact science it turns out), but managed to see Mum complete her first marathon to the cheers of the crowd in the grandstand, they may have been loud but no one shouted louder than the two of us.

She was in great spirits and looked great, until the first steps down…… a bit stiff and sore
