¶ Summer Snow

It’s Spring here.
Yesterday I got sunburned whilst sitting in the back garden of some friends.
In fact most of the afternoon was spent avoiding the sun.
Why am I writing this?
Because outside the window is an inch of snow and it is still ploppping down!
And I thought the Scots weather was mental

Well after a weekend spent in a classroom I have just passed my basic training
to be a volunteer firefighter in the Tasmanian Fire Service.
Next comes a pager and having to get out of bed at 3am because some
drunk has left the chip pan on………. hopefully not me!

Normally it happens around Christmas.
High northerly winds and dry weather combine to make the whole of Tasmania a tinderbox.
With Australian native vegetation having all the fire retardent qualities of petrol and us living in the middle of it, it means we spend a lot of out time worrying about bush fires.
